With its most interesting aspect out-of-view and only hinted at by its flank, this side table is constructed from layers of plywood that are mechanically connected (not glued) with threaded rod.
Prior to the layers being sandwiched, the bottom edge of each piece is shattered by hand, creating an under surface that is richly textural and starkly contrasts the smooth outer surfaces.
